Sibirtelecom to gather cellular subsidiariesComNews, Tatyana Kapustina
Sibirtelecom has begun to consolidate its cellular assets into a single cellular branch. The consolidation is to take place as part of the reorganization of Svyazinvest.
As reported by the press service of Sibirtelecom, at present work is in progress to consolidate all of the operator’s cellular assets which are integrated in Sibirtelecom into a single cellular branch. The single branch will be set up in Novosibirsk and the timeframe for completing the reorganization of Sibirtelecom was not disclosed. “In light of the upcoming reorganization of the Svyazinvest Group of companies, actions are being taken aimed at consolidating the cellular assets of all seven regional telecom operators. As a result of the reorganization, the management of cellular assets is expected to be spun off as a standalone entity on the basis of Rostelecom”, a source at the press service pointed out.
As reported earlier to ComNews, at the end of May 2009 the governmental committee for transportation and telecommunications under the leadership of Vice-Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov approved the draft strategy for the reorganization of Svyazinvest (see ComNews article dated April 12, 2010). As part of the merger process, the holding’s subsidiaries should be folded into Rostelecom. In addition, the holding’s cellular assets are to spun off into a standalone entity in order to roll out a federal mobile operator.
In April, the general director of Rostelecom Anton Kolpakov told journalists that Rostelecom intends by summer 2010 to set up a branch to manage the cellular assets of Svyazinvest holding. He went on to emphasize that the branch would be a division of Rostelecom and not an independent legal entity.
The press secretary of the general director of Uralsvyazinform (USI) Valery Kostarev pointed out that all of USI’s cellular assets were consolidated and merged with the parent company back in 2005 (Ermak RMS (Tyumen region), Khanty Mansiisk Autonomous District, Yamal Autonomous District, Yuzhno-Uralsk Cellular Telephone (Chelyabinsk and Kurgan Region, Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Region operated in at the branch of Uralsvyazinform).
“We expect to make public our plans and the timeframe for reorganizing the cellular business after the company’s annual general shareholders meeting is held, that is on June 16. All decisions will be adopted at that meeting”, the press service of Southern Telecommunications Company (UTK) noted.
