Interfax

The shareholders of Sibirtelecom (RTS: ENCO) are to review in June 2010 the issue of establishing a regional cellular telephony branch, the operator’s general director Ivan Dadykin said on Tuesday.

"The plan is to make amendments (at the shareholders meeting – IF) on the organization of the charter for another branch – a regional cellular telephony branch where all the cellular assets owned by the parent company would be concentrated”, Mr. Dadykin said.

He pointed out that the new branch will combine the cellular assets of the Tomsk and Khakassia branches of the company,  “There is also quite a good chance that Ulan-Udenskaya Cellular Communication will be included”, Mar. Dadykin added.

According to the operator’s CEO, the new branch will be based in Novosibirsk and the legal date of its incorporation will be the date of the meeting at which the shareholders review this issue.

Sibirtelecom is licensed to provide IMT-MC-450 cellular communication services in the Tomsk region and the republics of Khakassia and Buriatiya, and under the GSM-900/1800 in Buriatiya,  Sibirtelecom also holds a 100%  stake in Eniseitelecom (Krasnoyarsk) and Baikalvestcom (Irkutsk) (both operators provide GSM-900/1800 and IMT-MC-450 services.

As reported earlier, the concept for the reorganization of Svyazinvest calls for merging seven regional telecom operators with Rostelecom (RTS: RTKM) by way of a share swap).

Svyazinvest holds controlling stakes in Rostelcom and seven regional telecom companies – CenterTelecom (RTS: ESMO), North-West Telecom (RTS: SPTL), VolgaTelecom (RTS: NNSI), UTK (RTS: KUBN), Uralsvyazinform (RTS: URSI), Sibirtelecom (ENCO) and Far East Telecom (ESPK), as well as Central Telegraph (RTS: CNTL), Giprosvyaz, Dagsvyazinform and financial company Svyaz.
