Press release
On September 30, 2009, Novosibirsk. Sibirtelecom announced that it will be launching the largest data center in Siberia and the Far East of Russia. This project was carried out in two years together with NVision Group. The total amount of investments in the project reached more than RUR 124 mln.
The most powerful specialized platform for rolling out server and communications equipment has been built in Siberia. This facility is unrivaled in its degree of reliability and level of user protection. Sibirtelecom’s data center was designed in accordance with level 3 reliability out of 4, according to the TIA/EIA-942 standard. This makes it possible to ensure 99.982% uninterrupted service of all equipment installed at the data center.
“Sibirtelecom’s data center is geared both towards solving its own tasks and IT outsourcing. Not too long ago, data centers of this caliber were only to be found in such cities as Moscow and Saint Petersburg, while now we ourselves are getting involved in this promising market and are able to offer our clients collocation services, as well as physical and virtual hosting. I’d also like to say that data centers are not only a large-scale “storage facility” for servers, but it is also unique programming complex which makes it possible to consolidate on a single platform the network resources of various companies, to flexibly manage them and synchronize their business processes. Nowadays, we are witnessing great interest in data centers from the corporate segment of predominantly large companies. They are interested in ensuring high reliability, accessibility and protection of their IT resources, the security of their data, and high-speed telecom channels. Sibirtelecom is able to deliver in all of these areas”, says the commercial director of Sibirtelecom, Valery Belenky.
The Siberian data center is built on the basis of state-of-the-arts global technological standards which are available to advanced call centers. The system is equipped with high-tech video surveillance facilities, an uninterrupted electric power supply, air conditioning, and fire safety, which makes it possible to arrange both virtual protection of IT resources from unsanctioned access and physical safety of the equipment. The data center includes two server rooms with an area of 150 sq meters, in which 70 server cabinets can be placed. The optic cable network segment was designed to transmit data to Sibirtelecom’s multi-service network using two 10 Gbyte/s communication channels.
“Sibirtelecom’s data center meets all the requirements of international standards. This is not only a promising instrument for conducting business and expanding the range of available services, but also represents a serious competitive advantage for Sibirtelecom”, the director of the Siberian branch of Envision Group-Siberia Dmitry Gokov says. Nowadays, the data center market is expanding rapidly in Russia, and this is especially apparent when it comes to the rise in Internet users, and the development of ramified information systems. Corporate clients, among the largest concerns based in Siberia, will have the opportunity to optimize the expansion of their in-house IT resources by outsourcing their non-core activities, with the required reliability and protection parameters. NVision adopted the decision to become the first client of the new data center.
In implementing this project, Sibirtelecom expects to attract new corporate and private clients, and also resolve the important task of localizing traffic within its network raising the proportion of local traffic in the total volume of Internet traffic. It should be noted that Sibirtelecom’s data center consolidates the resources of content providers which are designed for subscribers in the coverage area of Sibirtelecom, and also acts as a technological platform for the portal Sibnet.ru. The presentation of this data center in Novosibirsk was attended by the representatives of major corporations, banks, government agencies and bodies, as well as the media, which managed to check out this closed facility of Sibirtelecom and assess the advantages of this state-of-the-arts data center.
